Sexual Health

Home ResourcesSexual Health

Sexual health is a big topic full of some general resources. The topic of sexual health pertains to a lot of subjects, such as: anatomy and health, sexual development, sexual function, different kinds of sexual activities, and more. The benefit is that a lot is covered and the drawback is, since so much is covered there is not deep a dive of specific topics. These resources should be looked at as the first thing learned, a 101 course, or a great place to start. Even saying that, knowing the basics is important in learning more advanced topics.

Guide to Getting it On

The Guide to Getting it On is now in its 8th edition and is a massive tome at nearly 1200 pages. It strives to be the one stop guide to all things about sex. It was one of the first books I purchased on the subject of sex and I have purchased many over the years. I have often given a Guide as presents for friends going off to college and giving the newest edition as a wedding gift. I have seen author Paul Joannides Psy.D. give talks and some of my colleges have collaborated in writing chapters. In addition to continually updating the book, author Paul Joannides maintains a website with a few free chapters and any important new discoveries at www.guidetogettingiton.com.

Even though I praise the Guide for many reasons, it is written for a primarily heterosexual audience. It is a factual view of sex and sexual health and a good place to start learning about sex.

You can find the Guide to Getting it On here.

Girl Sex 101

Girl Sex 101 is sex-positive guide to having sex with or as a person who identifies as a woman.  Author Allison Moon and illustrator KD Diamond tell a fantastic story of a road trip as they explore identity, body image, sex, society, and more. It has a witty writing style and wonderful illustrations. The book is focused on women and women having sex with women, and still it is a wonderful read for anyone. The non-judgmental and body positive writing style set this book apart from other books in the sexual health genre. You can find Girl Sex 101 here.
